Fellaria Glacier Lanzada Like
Fellaria Glacier is located in Valmalenco (SO), upstream of Lake Gera and Bignami Refuge. To reach the lake, from the refuge, you continue following the Marson Glaciological Trail towards the eastern tongue of the glacier. The lake is located in a moraine basin, leaning against the glacier and collecting its melting waters on which small icebergs float. Along the way, we find explanatory panels. In particular, from one of these, we can learn about the progressive evolution of the landscape that led to the formation of the lake in the years 2010-2015.
Lake of Fellaria: How To Get There
After arriving in Sondrio, take the road to the left towards Valmalenco and head to Lanzada. From there, continue on to Campo Franscia and Campo Moro, where the first artificial lake is located. Continuing along the road for a few minutes, you'll see the great dam of Lake Gera. The last parking lot is located here.
A 10-minute walk will take you to the top of the dam.To the left of the dam, there is a path that leads to Rifugio Bignami at 2400 meters. It takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes to walk there. From Rifugio Bignami, you can take another path around the lake of Gera, passing through Alpe Gembré, and arrive at the dam in two hours of walking. At Rifugio Bignami, you can try some typical Valtellina and Trentino cuisine.
From Rifugio Bignami, you can also reach the Fellaria Est Glacier by following path C, which takes about 1 hour and a half to walk. At the glacier, you'll see a lake created by the melting ice, located at an altitude of about 2600 meters. Many ibexes come down to drink water from the lake.
The best time to do this trek is from May to September. Rifugio Bignami, where you can book dinner and accommodations, is an excellent starting point for reaching other shelters, such as Rifugio Marinelli and Rifugio Carate.
