Civico Museo Archeologico Paolo Giovio Como Like
Como’s Archaeological Museum Paolo Giovio is housed in the Palazzo Giovio, and features collections from prehistoric and antiquity eras. The building, dating back to the late Middle Ages, underwent some changes in the sixteenth century by Benedetto Giovio and assumed the actual aspect, which meets the standards of the Lombard Baroque, in the eighteenth century by Giovan Battista.
The museum consists of the following sections:
- Collectibles section, which includes a prehistoric collection, a collection of Greek vases, Egyptian one, the halls of bronzes, gems and coins.
- Section Prehistoric and Protohistoric: illustrates the evolutionary process that led to the appearance of the human race, presenting the archaeological materials discovered in the Como area.
- The Roman Section, where they are placed the remains of the Roman Como area.
On the ground floor of the museum can be found the Roman Lapidary and a room dedicated to the great mosaic floor from the Roman era discovered in Perti Street, Como.
