Cernobbio Cernobbio Like
An elegant, world famous holiday destination that lies on the Western shore of Lake Como, on the slopes of Mount Bisbino, along the ancient via Regina. Other interesting villas are Villa Erba and Villa Bernasconi. Along the picturesque lakeside square, with its Art Nouveau dock there is a succession of cafés and restaurants. Here every Wednesday morning a lively market is held.
The name Cernobbio seems to originate from the presence of a monastery, “Coenobium", which rose where Villa Gastel stands today. The economy of the town was basically based on silk and wool manufacturing, paper production and tourism (many of the 1800 luxury villas were built by nobles and wealthy families who were coming here to spend their holidays and enjoy the beauty of the lake).
